3rd Annual Jefferson Renal Update Symposium: Cross-Talk Between the Kidneys and Remote Organ Systems
September 26, 2019 - September 27, 2019
This symposium is designed to address the pathophysiology that underlies the complex and bidirectional interaction between the kidneys and other organs. The program will provide updated information on management approaches to care for patients with kidney injury in the setting of other organ failure.
Topics:
- Lupus Nephritis
- Hepato-Renal Syndrome
- Infectious Diseases and Renal Disease
- Hyperparathyroidism and Renal Disease
- Cardio-Renal Syndrome
- Hypertension in Pregnancy
- Onco-Nephrology
- Kidney Dysfunction in Non-Renal Solid Organ Transplants
Learning Objectives:
- Classify the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and administer the proper treatment for lupus nephritis
- Discuss the current classification, pathophysiology, and management of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with liver cirrhosis
- Recognize the different kidney pathology seen in patients with chronic infection including
Hepatitis C and HIV and how this affects management decisions - Differentiate between primary and renal associated hyperparathyroidism and discuss clinical
complications that affect CKD patients - Classify different types of cardio-renal syndrome and determine the best method of management
- Outline the spectrum of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and general management principles
- Determine strategies to monitor for long-term cardiovascular sequelae
- Recognize the common AKI or CKD associated with cancer and cancer therapy
- Determine the causes of renal disease with a progressive decline in kidney function in non-renal
solid organ transplant - Identify the criteria for simultaneous organ transplantation
Format: Didactic lectures, case presentations, and panel discussions.
